Traffic officer ran over discharged from hospital



The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Sello Lehari is pleased that the injured officer has been discharged from the hospital.

Provincial Inspector Sabata Paul Mahlatsi of the Montshioa Provincial Traffic was on duty on N18 between Lekoko and Madiba a Makgabana villages on Friday January 03, 2020.

He was was stopping the taxi and the driver obeyed. However the vehicle behind the taxi was too close and hit it from behind. The momentum pushed it forward and it hit the officer. .

The officer and two injured passengers from the taxi were taken to the hospital. They were treated for slight injuries.

MEC Lehari is elated the officer is discharged and in high spirits.

“We are very happy he is back and healing well. It wasn’t the best way to start the year but at times things like these happen”. MEC Lehari again pleaded with road motorists to keep safe following distance, drive safely and be responsible. He issued a stern warning to all speeding drivers.

“Everyone on the road has a responsibility to arrive alive. Our officers are going to continue to be intolerant to any driver deviancy”, said MEC Lehari.

Statistics still to be verified show that the Province is still around 29% less than the same period last year.
